    A coalition of more than a dozen environmental groups on Thursday sued the Trump administration for rolling back chemical disaster prevention regulations, a move they say has endangered millions of lives.

    For the second day in a row, Australia has broken its hottest day in recorded history. On Wednesday, that average rose to 107.4°, sparking a fresh wave of warnings and demands for bold efforts to battle the planetary crisis.

    Common Dreams dot org reports a crackdown by Indian authorities against those protesting the country's new citizenship laws escalated Thursday as government security forces shut down internet across some cities, detained at least 1,200 people, killed at least three demonstrators, and pulled prominent intellectuals off the street.

    More than 60 U.S. military personnel deployed to a site in Uzbekistan where ponds glowed green and black goo oozed from the ground have reportedly been diagnosed with cancer or died from the disease.

    The U.S. Air Force is moving to discharge a sergeant who was revealed as a local leader of a white nationalist group more than eight months ago, The Denver Post reports.

    And lastly, the New York Times reports the number of teens vaping marijuana has nearly doubled in the past year—but they’re increasingly turning their backs on booze and hard drugs.

    Only 52% of high-school seniors said they had used alcohol in the last year — a big decline from the figures in the year 2000, when 73 percent of 12th graders said they’d had a drink.

    Former Republican governor of Kentucky Matt Bevin pardoned or commuted the sentences of hundreds of Kentucky inmates during his final acts in office, but according to the Courier Journal, the family of one man who was pardoned held a political fundraiser for Bevin in the summer of 2018, which raised more than $20,000.

    Reuters is reporting U.S. oil giant Chevron is preparing devalue its assets by $10 billion to $11 billion this quarter and is considering selling some natural gas projects to prepare for long term low prices.

    And lastly, federal prosecutors in Manhattan have asked a judge to return Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas to jail for misrepresenting his income and hiding a $1 million payment from Russia in September.
