We knew that there weren't 17 Republicans with integrity in the Senate, but that doesn't make it any easier when they put their jobs and political party ahead of the nation. But that's exactly what they did on Saturday as the second impeachment trial of Donal Trump ended with an acquittal. And as he tends to do, Trump won by losing the popular vote! The final tally was 57 for conviction, 43 against. And he wins! Opposite world indeed. Lisa Graves heads True North Research, but she has served as Deputy Asst Attorney General in the Clinton administration, and Chief Counsel for Nominations for Sen. Patrick Leahy on the Senate Judiciary Committee, among other high level legal posts in the US government. She'll join us today to try to answer my myriad of questions about what happened and why...

It seemed that we fell through the looking glass into opposite world today, as Trump's 'attorneys' presented his defense. It was lies and gaslighting, followed by more lies and gaslighting. They only took about 3 hours of the 18 hours they were allotted. So, they took a brief recess and then went in to questions and answers. I carried it live, and stayed on the air an extra half hour until the questions were done. They'll be back tomorrow morning at 10, so I will be here too. I'll likely start a few minutes earlier, as some news broke after today's show - and the trial- ended for the night. CNN is now reporting that, while the Capitol was under siege, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called Trump and begged him to do something to stop the insurrection, and he refused. The trial is still in progress, and tomorrow is the day that they'd call witnesses, if they're going to. I think they need to subpoena Kevin McCarthy to testify tomorrow, right now.

A bit of what's news, for now

It's the third day of the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Today, we're going to do something similar to what we did yesterday. We'll carry it live for however long it's on during today's show from 5-6pm ET, and I'll share some of the highlights of what happened earlier today. And perhaps we'll be able to get to some other news too... I don't know why I use the Royal "we"... it's just me. And you.

I watched the trial all day so you didn't have to. I realized there's nothing more important than what we're learning from today's presentation. So when I went live at 5ET, I carried the hearing, and chimed in where appropriate. After about 35 minutes or so, they broke for dinner. At that time, I started recounting what happened during today's session from the managers Jamie Raskin, and the others. Today's show runs over about 30 minutes...
